A expressão “o'clock” é utilizada para indicar as horas exatas: Exemplos: 3:00 – It is three o'clock. 9:00 – It is nine o'clock.

3:45 = A quarter to four. 4:55 = Five to five.

É bem mais comum falar dos minutos passados dessa maneira: Ten past 9 (9:10), quarter past 9 (9:15), half past 9 (9:30) ou apenas, “half 9”. Já depois de meia hora, começamos a contar os minutos para a próxima hora, por exemplo: Twenty to 10 (9:40), quarter to 10 (9:45), ten to 10 (9:50).
