The Spellplague, called the Blue Breath of Change by the inhabitants of Abeir, was a disaster that struck Realmspace and even the planes themselves on Tarsakh 29 of the Year of Blue Fire, 1385 DR, and was caused by Mystra's assassination at the hands of Cyric and Shar.
The premise is that, long ago, the Earth and the world of the Forgotten Realms were more closely connected. As time passed, the inhabitants of planet Earth have mostly forgotten about the existence of that other world – hence the name Forgotten Realms.
If the whole live timeline campaign thing is still true, the current Forgotten Realms year is 1495 DR. Princes of the Apocalypse is 1491 DR and it came out in 2015.
Thus Warforged don't need to eat or drink, but nothing prevents them from doing so. They're also capable of getting drunk off alcohol, though their poison resistance makes them able to go drink for drink with any dwarf.

Ultimately, however, Dungeons & Dragons represents a unique blending of these elements. The world of D&D was influenced by world mythology, history, pulp fiction, and contemporary fantasy novels. The importance of J. R. R. Tolkien's The Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit as an influence on D&D is controversial.
D&D is pseudo-medieval, usually with a technology level around the very late Middle Age/early Renaissance.

Waterdeep: Dragon Heist is designed for level 1-5 players, making it a perfect starter campaign. The sequel scheduled for release on Nov. 13, Waterdeep: Dungeon of the Mad Mage, is designed for levels 5 through 20.
This is a fun four-hour side quest adventure we can drop in to give players a chance to go outside the story and enjoy an interesting dungeon-in-a-city.

If they're into role playing and investigation they should be fine. Dragon Heist is really new player and DM IMO, that is, unless their first response is to attack. It's super friendly to new DMs, as the “work” has been done, mostly, and there's lots of opportunity for flair and detailing.
Dragon Heist is a fun low-level adventure, but is better suited to experienced players and DM's. PC's in Waterdeep can't simply do whatever they want, because the city watch might show up and arrest them. ... In short, LMoP is a wild-west adventure perfectly suited to new players.
What happens if a dragon in Waterdeep has permission to enter the city revoked? This makes it pretty clear that a dragon who has been so permitted may move through the city freely. It leaves silent what happens to a dragon who has this permission rescinded while they are still in the city.
