Mechagodzilla bears a strong resemblance to its namesake. It sports a series of short metal plates resembling Godzilla's dorsal plates (more closely resembling Godzilla's appearance from the 2014 film) running from the back of its neck all the way down to the tip of its tail. Its forelimbs are considerably bulkier and slightly longer than the real Godzilla's with four zygodactyl claws on its hands. Its feet also seem to bear a slight resemblance to Ghidorah's, while still having Godzilla's frame. Mechagodzilla's tail also has a drill mounted to its tip.
As Godzilla and Kong fought in Hong Kong for supremacy, Apex activated Mechagodzilla, which was now infused with the power from the Hollow Earth. However, this also prompted Ghidorah's consciousness to possess the mecha. The machine instantly severed its neural link with Serizawa and went out of control, killing Simmons. An electrical shock promptly killed Serizawa before Mechagodzilla broke free from its facility underneath Victoria Peak Mountain and began to destroy what was left of Hong Kong with its Proton Scream. Godzilla, who had just nearly killed Kong, roared at his mechanical doppelgänger and promptly charged at him.
That's where Apex's plan concerning Kong comes in. After the corporation taps Dr. Lind to help them, they convince Kong's main researcher Dr. Ilene Edwards and her adopted daughter Jia, who Kong has a trusting relationship with, to lead Apex to the Hollow Earth. This subterranean world contains a well of unlimited energy that, when harnessed correctly, could power Mechagodzilla and give it the edge over Godzilla.
If you're here, you really should have watched the entire film by now. Should you have stumbled on this by mistake, though, there are major spoilers for Godzilla vs Kong incoming. Yes, you'll have had this reveal ruined for you, but there are other details below that will spoil the movie for you further if you haven't seen it yet. Turn back now if that's the case.
Both of Mechagodzilla's enormous feet support a total of five digits, with four at the front and one at the back. Its legs are shown to contain various pieces of machinery such as hydraulic pistons to support its massive weight.
Even Godzilla's atomic breath couldn't save him, as Mechagodzilla overpowered it with a Proton Scream. In the midst of the one-sided offensive, Lind resuscitated Kong with an improvised defibrillator, detonating a Hollow Earth Aerial Vehicle on his chest. Jia, last of the Iwi who once lived with Kong on Skull Island, convinced him that Mechagodzilla was his true enemy. He intervened just before Mechagodzilla could fire its Proton Scream down Godzilla's throat, causing its shot to go wide. The two Titans resolved to work together, but Mechagodzilla was not so easily bested, knocking Godzilla down before trying to drive its tail into Kong's eye. Bernie was ready to admit defeat, but inspiration struck Josh. He grabbed Bernie's flask and dumped the contents onto a control panel, causing it to spark and Mechagodzilla to briefly pause its offensive. Kong struck a blow with his axe and Godzilla blew atomic breath at the weapon, powering it up. Kong went off, slicing off half of the robot's tail, both its arms, and one of its legs. Mechagodzilla readied its Proton Scream, but Kong planted his blade into its neck and ripped off its head, "spinal cord" and all.
Mechagodzilla appears as a selectable unit in Godzilla battle line. He is a 4 star melee unit. He has 3 attacks in his unit form. He can target a single enemy with his tail drill, he can hit multiple enemies with his punch, and he can damage a huge group of enemies with a volley of missiles. His leader form is a whole different beast. He only attacks with his multi hitting punch attack. His special move fires the A-74 Proton Scream cannon. This attack knocks all air units to the ground and deals 400 damage to any spot on the map.
Madison Russell, an avid listener of Hayes's podcast and key player in the Ghidorah incident, subscribed to his theory that Apex provoked Godzilla's attack. She and her friend Josh Valentine tracked him down, and the unlikely trio decided to infiltrate the ravaged Apex facility. The massive eye Hayes saw was missing, but Madison led them to sublevel 33 and a maglev train full of Skullcrawler eggs. They hitched a ride to Apex headquarters in Hong Kong.
A more benevolent Mechagodzilla met up with Godzilla and Kong near a playground.
With the other members of Toho's Big Five already featured in the first three entries of the MonsterVerse, it was high time to introduce Godzilla's mechanical doppelganger for "Godzilla vs. Kong." A jerk to rival the Showa version, this iteration of Mechagodzilla was built by Apex Cybernetics in order to end the reign of the Titans and reestablish mankind as the planet's apex species. However, the ill-advised use of King Ghidorah's skull as a neural interface for the mecha resulted in it breaking free of its creators' control, rampaging through Hong Kong, and rapidly overpowering Godzilla. Fortunately, Kong came to the rescue, and the two Titans worked together to destroy the robot.
Mechagodzilla has 5 attacks and the dash utility that was mentioned earlier, which propels him forward with rocket boosters on his back, activated through the V key on PCs, which can be useful for covering more ground in short durations or to evade attacks, as well as for hit and run confrontations. It also augments the damage of Turbo Strike.
It isn't explained how Apex built Mechagodzilla's shell and robotic parts, or what materials they used to make it. As a cybernetics company, though, we imagine that it's made up of the best and strongest materials known to man. What we do know is that Apex have been building Mechagodzilla's parts in secret at its various laboratories and sneaking them off to Hong Kong even when Godzilla has attacked its bases, much like it does in Florida.
Suspicious after Godzilla's attack, Madison Russell and her friend Josh Valentine sought out Bernie, and agreed that Apex had something to do with Godzilla's change in behavior. The three then broke into the ruined Apex facility, finding that the "eye" Bernie described was now gone. Madison found an elevator that took them to sublevel 33, a mysterious area mentioned in the data Hayes managed to download. Upon reaching the sublevel, the group of three hid in a nearby transport vessel that housed Skullcrawler eggs. The vessel was then transported to Apex's headquarters in Hong Kong. As the three began to investigate the large chamber they found themselves in, they stumbled upon the activation test for Apex's ultimate anti-Titan weapon: Mechagodzilla.
In the time following King Ghidorah's defeat, billionaire Walter Simmons and his company, Apex Cybernetics, focused on helping mankind rebuild and respond to the rise of the Titans. Bernie Hayes, an online conspiracy theorist and host of the Titan Truth Podcast, worked deep undercover for Apex Cybernetics in Pensacola, Florida for five years to try and expose the company's shady activities. Just as Hayes was downloading data from an Apex computer onto a flash drive, Godzilla rose from the ocean and attacked the facility. As the staff began to evacuate, Hayes sneaked into a restricted area of the facility where he was confronted by two guards. As they held him at gunpoint, the two guards were suddenly killed by a blast of Godzilla's atomic breath, leaving Bernie with small injuries. As the smoke cleared and Godzilla continued his rampage, Bernie saw a strange piece of technology resembling a giant robotic eye among the ruins of the facility.
As you'll have worked out by now, Godzilla isn't the movie's chief bad guy. The trailers had installed Godzilla as the villain of the piece, but we know that's not true now. It is, in fact, Mechagodzilla.
The Ghost of Ghidorah: This Mechagodzilla is the first incarnation of the character to fall under the control of a Ghidorah on film, but not in the wider world of Godzilla stories. In the climax of Shogakukan's manga adaptation for "Godzilla vs. Mechagodzilla II," Mecha-King Ghidorah's latent programming wrenched control of Super Mechagodzilla from the humans piloting it. MKG brutally assaulted Godzilla while he was downed by the G-Crusher, nearly killing the King of the Monsters. As in the film, Rodan's intervention saved his life and gave him the energy he needed to put down Mecha G for good.
Mechagodzilla is a remarkably powerful fighter. Having been constructed by Apex Cybernetics to destroy the Titans, particularly Godzilla, it was easily able to overpower the King of the Monsters in combat and nearly kill him, as well as fight two Titans at once.
Unlike its previous incarnations, this Mechagodzilla has enhanced physical strength and human-like reflexes that allowed it to effortlessly overpower an adult Skullcrawler, as well as knock over and throw Godzilla around. These enhanced physical attributes when combined with Mechagodzilla's ability to charge its blows with plasma for added damage enabled it to overpower both Godzilla and Kong in the final fight, despite the mecha being outnumbered, although it must be noted that both Titans were extremely exhausted and wounded after fighting each other.
As Madison, Josh, and Bernie continued to sneak around the facility, they came upon a room containing Ghidorah's skull, which Apex had converted into a living supercomputer and neural interface used to control Mechagodzilla. After Kong had led the Apex-Monarch team into a massive castle-like structure that was built for his species, he found a massive axe that glowed with blue energy, which caused the ground around him began to glow with the same energy. Apex immediately sent out a spider-like drone to extract and analyze a sample of the energy, much to Monarch's disagreement.
