Unlike most PokпїЅmon games, the core aspect of progression isn't tied to the PokпїЅmon, but rather in this case it is tied to the trainer. When you start the game, you have the ability to customise your trainer with a few preset options, as well as choose its name. When you reach Level 5, you can also assign yourself a special Team to fight for: Team Instinct, Team Valor & Team Mystic. You can also collect medals which you can see in the trainer section on the bottom left of the screen.

When you hit max trainer level, your trainer page will continue to show XP accumulation but you will not level up. The game files currently do not contain values for experience thresholds for higher levels but if the max level is increased, we expect players who have attained the required experience to be automatically leveled.
Later Trainer level rewards get better over time, becoming more lucrative the higher your level, with more powerful Great Balls and Ultra Balls, additional Incubators, new curatives and other items becoming available.
To make things as efficient as possible, you can rename all the Pokémon you want to evolve before you start. Use punctuation like ! to push them to the top of the list. Otherwise, Caterpie, Weedle, and Pidgey are all really close together in Pokémon number, so sort that way and get to it.
There are a couple of things that really stand out as big-XP tasks: Excellent Throws (1000 XP), Legendary Raids (10,000 XP), a seven-day catch streak bonus (20,000 XP) and becoming Best Friends with another Trainer (100,000 XP).
You can also earn XP by unlocking other medals on your profile screen for completing different tasks such as walking a certain distance or battling and trading with other players. You can see details on each medal's requirements by tapping on their icon.
Anything on the following list that can stack, will stack — for example, evolving a new Pokémon will give you 1000 XP for the new Pokédex entry, as well as the 1000 XP for the evolution itself.
The key part, however, is experience. Whenever you do something in the game, your character will gain experience and eventually level up. As your level increases, you will discover more PokпїЅmon and face PokпїЅmon with stronger Combat Points in the wild. You'll also get various perks and unlock new items.
While you may have missed out on the bonus XP, you can often message your friend and warn them of what happened (ideally with a brief apology). This advanced warning will allow them to use a Lucky Egg and catch the XP when they open the game. It's not ideal, but it's a good safety net.
One thing that you need to know is that the Best Friend system is held in very high regard among players, and those that don't follow XP etiquette in Pokémon Go can quickly be labelled as 'snipers' and ousted by some communities.
If you look on the trainer rewardsВ page, you'll notice that the max trainer level is currently level 40. To get an idea of how much experience you need to hit level 40, consider this.
It’s also worth remembering that bonuses stack in Pokémon Go. This means that if you use a Lucky Egg, your XP rewards will double for the next 30 minutes. If it's a Community Day that gives triple catch XP, that will also stack, offering a whopping 6x multiplier.
The additional overhead that comes from having to hit the Pokémon Go Plus and the evolve button on your phone at the same time can slow down your catch and your evolve rate, but you should still end up way ahead in total.
Finally, timing hatching eggs and getting a Pokémon Go Daily Bonus with a Lucky Egg will give you an extra dose of XP – and while along aren’t enough to spend a Lucky Egg on, are worth timing with the above methods if you can manage it.
To get the most out of this method, capture as many first-evolution creatures as possible, with each capture giving you Candy and a potential creature to evolve. Remember you can get bonus Candy by transferring them back to the Professor, but make sure you have enough to actually evolve.
It's expensive because you need the Pokémon Go Plus and it uses a bunch of Poké Balls, but it works. And if you mass catch during a double XP event, your totals will be twice as high. If you can pick a spot that has a lot of Pokémon and a lot of PokéStops, you can save yourself some money because the PokéStops will help you replenish your PokéBalls.
As mentioned, this takes some time – 90 days in total – but since all it takes is a single interaction per day (Raid, trade or have either Trainer open a gift), it’s by far and away the most lucrative XP source in the game.
